What you need to know
Plan UK’s Gender adviser will be located in the Quality Assurance, Impact & Learning (QAIL) unit, one of four units in our Programmes Department. This is a great opportunity for a development professional with in-depth knowledge and experience of girl’s rights and gender equality programming and to make a significant contribution to this growing body of work within Plan UK.
The adviser will provide technical and thought leadership on gender equality, to all Plan departments, particularly in relation to the design and development of new programmes, in relation to girls’ education; economic security, violence against women and girls (VAWG), WASH and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Where necessary the adviser will also provide technical and capacity building support to ensure the successful delivery of projects and programmes. In doing so they will engage with Plan International’s global advisers to ensure strategic alignment of gender work around the organisation, and that good practice is shared across the wider Plan federation, and with outside organisations.
The Adviser will be supporting colleagues across the organisation to build Plan’s reputation as a thought leader on multi-sectoral approaches to the empowerment of adolescent girls; and ensuring gender mainstreaming within the organisational as per Plan’s gender strategy.
Some overseas travel is envisaged, approximately three trips per year.
This is a permanent full-time post at 34.5 hours a week – we finish at 4.30pm on a Friday.
We are based in Old Street, London. (Finsgate, 5-7 Cranwood Street to be precise).
What we’re looking for
If you’re eager for the challenge, you will need to have proven knowledge of current thinking around girls’ rights and gender equality through relevant qualifications and experience. You will have the capacity to effectively analyse girls’ rights and gender equality issues and communicate results to a wide range of stakeholders.
We’re looking for someone who has supported programme implementation primarily through advising, coaching and influencing, rather than direct line-management. . Experience of having lived and worked in developing countries, and worked closely with local partners or country office staff would be additional bonuses.
It’s a permanent contract, and it’s a full-time at 34.5 hours a week – we finish at 4.30pm on a Friday.

The usual recruitment rate for this post (Grade 2) is £41,766 with future pay progression within the pay band from £41,766 to £45,064.
Our annual leave entitlement starts at 25 days (plus public holidays) for new starters. It goes up to 30 once you’ve been with us for 6 years.
