Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Closing date: 06 Jul 2018

6 month fixed term contract from mid-August

Plan International UK is an independent development and humanitarian charity that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children. We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries. By 2022 we want to help 100 million girls learn, lead, decide and thrive.

The Policy and Programmes Directorate supports our aims by ensuring that we deliver the highest quality policy and programmes. We constantly enhance programme quality and effectiveness, raise income from institutional donors and drive change through setting and influencing policy agendas.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward relevant areas of Plan International UK’s policy change objectives with specific reference to gender equality and the rights of adolescent girls.

As Policy and Advocacy Adviser you will develop and implement effective influencing strategies towards the UK Government and other actors, alongside building and managing influential advocacy and policy relationships with Government, NGOs, networks and partners. You will produce influential and persuasive policy briefings and analysis and monitor the global gender sector ensuring our work is highly visible, particularly with UK audiences.

With experience in advocacy work on girls’ rights issues, you will have undertaken policy analysis and written policy briefings and reports on relevant areas of international development policy. You will have previously managed and developed influencing relationships and coordinated networks/coalitions, and will be able to network and foster partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders. An excellent understanding of relevant policy discourse on gender equality and girl’s rights in development, is essential; a focus on violence against women and girls and an understanding of gender in fragile and humanitarian settings will be advantageous.

The deadline for applications is 9:00am on Friday 6 July 2018

Interviews will take place onWednesday 11 July 2018

Due to the nature of our work with children, we follow rigorous child protection policies and procedures in our recruitment process. As a result, some of our roles are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from joining us as an employee or volunteer; this will depend on the circumstances of any offences.
