Background

World Renew (previously known as Christian Reformed World Relief Committee) has worked in Southern Africa since 1991 implementing integrated community development programs through Church Partners across the region. Our focus has been on community transformation through improved food security, better child health outcomes, literacy and sustainable livelihoods development. We invest in the development of the capacity of our implementing local Church partners to bring about transformative development in the communities and congregations they serve. World Renew also responds to disasters in the region.

World Renew invites applicants to the position of Partner Capacity Developer. Based in Lilongwe, this position reports to the Southern Africa Ministry Team Leader and is primarily responsible for providing support to World Renew’s partners in program design, monitoring and evaluation (DME) and resource development.

Major Tasks & Responsibilities

1) Support our church in community (CnC) local church empowerment strategy through monitoring visits and training staff of partner organizations and local CnC committees in participating congregations.

2) Provide technical support and training to partners in the implementation of food security and VSLA programming.

3) Monitor partner program quality and measure progress through field visits and review of reporting documents.

4) Ensure accountability of donor funds through visits and regular review of financial documents and procedures.

5) Use information from monitoring processes to build the capacity of our partners to implement community driven planning processes, including PLA, Community Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments (COVACA) and other systems-based community driven planning processes.

6) Assist partners to develop their capacity in resource development.

7) Prepare supporter and donor engagement materials including short stories of transformation, social media engagement, photographs, and community interviews.

Skills and Knowledge Required**

1) A mature Christian able to articulate and apply faith to the work of community development and poverty alleviation.

2) Ability to work effectively cross culturally with both North American constituents and International staff as well as at various levels of society across the region.

3) Computer literate in the MS Office package and internet & communication technology use (will be tested).

4) Able to drive and possessing a clean driving record (will be tested).

5) Strong familiarity with program design, monitoring and evaluation methods.

6) Familiarity with and ability to use Results Based Management (RBM) and Logframe Analysis (LFA) frameworks for planning and monitoring.

7) Strong background in implementing food security, VSLA and/or Maternal and Child Health programming.

8) Previous experience in developing and implementing programming that seeks to mainstream community resilience to disaster, shocks, and climate change would be strongly desirable.

9) Familiar with participatory training and mobilization techniques relevant to the context in the region.

10) Strong history of implementing Gender sensitive programming

Experience and Qualifications

1) This position only is for a Malawian National or an individual with the right to work in Malawi.

2) Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (Agriculture, Community Development, etc…)

3) 3-5 years experience of living and working in rural areas mobilizing communities and/or managing development projects.

4) Written and spoken fluency in English and Chichewa

5) Physically fit with the ability to lift 15 Kg or more

6) Willingness to travel approximately 25 % of the time in insecure and/or impoverished areas which will have no infrastructure or support structures

7) Willingness to reside in conditions with unreliable access to water and electricity and increased exposure to illness Flexibility and willingness to learn
